Hardwick Hall - Gothic Writing Trip

Armed with notebooks, sharpened minds and sharpened pencils, fifty-two year eight students ventured out to the historic Hardwick Hall, today. We studied the conventions of gothic literature, and inspired by the historical stories, architecture and artifacts of Hardwick Hall, we created our own gothic sagas.

The learning volunteers at Hardwick Hall, two of whom are retired headteachers and still serve on governing boards of schools, praised the students saying that our KBA learners were 'actively engaged', 'inquisitive', and 'curious'. They praised the students' movement around the grounds and house, appreciating their 'orderliness, politeness and courtesy for other people on site'. We were "the best they've seen in a long time". Perhaps most important of all, they praised the students creativity, intelligence, and willingness to 'sink their teeth' into their learning. We am immensely proud of our students' conduct and the maturity with which they tackled a new topic, new task, and new environment.
