Year 8's South Yorkshire Cup Glory

Well done to Mr Bruce and his Year 8 boys football team. On Thursday, 19th April, the year 8 boys took part in the South Yorkshire Schools FA cup at the Keepmoat Stadium in Doncaster. The game was intense from start to finish as Kirk Balk Academy conceded two goals within the first half. Ecclesfield School were a skilful, attacking competitor who played some excellent football. However, after an uplifting and tactful team talk Kirk Balk were ready to compete to their best in the second half. The year 8 boys showed sheer determination and resilience during the second half whilst adopting a classic 4-4-2 formation change, playing the game how they know best. Through a gruelling second half Zack Bond was able to secure not one, but two goals chipping the keeper in style. In the final moments of the game levelled at 2-2, Ben Hatton was able to break through the defence burying the goal into the top corner securing Kirk Balks Reign as champions as the whistle blew. Mr Bruce said afterwards "This was a well-deserved win by such a dedicated and skilful team who have worked incredibly hard throughout the season. As my first year as manager, I am very proud of the boys and I hope to replicate this next season. Well done!".

After the game the man of the match chosen by Mr Bruce was Ben Hatton. Mr Bruce commented on Bens performance saying "It is always difficult to choose a man of the match as every team member works their hardest. However, Ben during the game showed immense skill, determination and sportsmanship throughout. This was a pleasure to witness and I could not have asked for more".
