Promoting life in modern Britain
During each academic year students at Kirk Balk learn about the values and privileges of living in modern Britain.
Students have many opportunities for their voices to be heard. We have a Academy Student Union which meets regularly to discuss issues raised from across all aspects of Academy life, the Union is able to genuinely effect change within the Academy. Some members of the council are voted in by their peers in forms and year groups.
Students have regular student voice conversations with senior staff in which they are able to put forward their views about the Academy.
The Rule of Law
The importance of Laws, whether they be those that govern the class, the Academy, or the country, are consistently reinforced throughout the Academy year, as well as through Academy assemblies. Students are taught the value and reasons behind laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken. Visits from authorities such as the Police and Fire Service help reinforce this message.
Within school, students are actively encouraged to make choices, knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment. As an Academy we educate and provide boundaries for students to make choices safely.
Students learn that their behaviours have an effect on their own rights and those of others. All members of the Academy community treat each other with respect.
Tolerance of those of Different Faiths and Beliefs
We place a great emphasis on promoting diversity with our students and our RE and PSHCE teaching reinforce an understanding of other faiths and beliefs. Members of different faiths or religions are encouraged to share their knowledge to enhance learning within classes and the Academy.
We will actively challenge students expressing opinions contrary to fundamental British Values, including extremist views.
